doritos commercial!

This is an unaired commercial produced for the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl Contest last year. The director is a colleague I've worked on several projects with, and most of the cast and crew have also worked together as well. This commercial did not receive enough votes to make it to the finals, and therefore has never aired on TV.

dishnetwork with blockbuster commercial!

And here it is, in all its glory. Apparently, the :30 is airing all over the place, though I've only caught the end of it when I was in Atlanta. But texts, calls, and messages have been raining in from all over the country, so I suppose maybe you've seen it, too. If not, here is the full two-minute version.

As mentioned previously, there is a bit of dancing. With a remote. And some of the outtakes also were apparently good enough to make the final cut - my scene was all improv, and I'm quite happy with it. Enjoy.

i booked a commercial!

After being on avail for a Pepsi/Saturday Night Live spot two weeks ago that I did not book, I came back strong and booked an ad for DishNetwork! The audition was on a Wednesday, fitting Thursday, and shoot on Friday. Bangbangbang. It all happened so fast I didn't have time to tell my mom (hi Mom! I'm still a working actor!). I dunno when it'll run, but there will be innerwebular components as well. I won't give away any secrets, but there's a chance I had to dance during the shoot. If it's not too embarrassing, I'll post it here when it airs.

Also of note, out of 130 actors that were called in for the audition, only two males were chosen; both had beards, and both were from Kentucky. Thank you beard, and thank you Kentucky.

u.s. census commercial! finally!

Whelp, this spot was shot over a year ago and aired eight months ago, but I've finally been able to find an online copy of it. I appear briefly in the :30 version as the dude with the guitar who opens his door to fire trucks. Cool, eh? Sorry for the delay.

cartoon network shoot, toronto.

I helped produce the music for three upcoming spots for the Cartoon Network, and was lucky enough to fly to Toronto for the filming. We recorded a twenty-piece boys chorus in Los Angeles on a Monday, and the composer/creative director and I flew out that Thursday. On Friday, we rehearsed with thirty boys from a school choir and ten more random boys that would make up the on-screen choir lip-synching to the prerecorded tracks. We shot Saturday and Sunday at a public school's auditorium and the set of the new Cartoon Network show, Unnatural History. I also got to play a cameo role as the harpsichordist in one of the spots!

kentucky derby.

I was this close ( ) to missing the Derby this year, something I haven't missed in recent memory. I was on set for a series of Cartoon Network commercials in Toronto for four days, and knew it would be a struggle to find a TV in the public school we were shooting in. Somehow, I was able to find a website that was streaming the race live (and illegally) just before it began. Had I known it would've been that easy, I would've tuned in earlier for the playing of My Old Kentucky Home, which is really all I wanted to see. But I did see the walk up to the post and the race, so my Derby day was not totally wasted. My only other goal was to find a mint julep somewhere in the city, but the bar we chose to go to was not equipped with fresh mint or good bourbon. So it goes. Maybe that will just make next year's that much sweeter....

us census commercial is airing!

It's kinda neat to be getting texts, calls, and messages from people telling me that they saw me on TV. While my screen time is only 4-5 seconds, it's still pretty cool to be recognized by friends and family across the country. The ad is the one urging people to open their doors for the census takers, and I'm the dude playing guitar who opens his door to fire trucks pulling out. Yes, those were real fire trucks, and the timing of that shot took awhile to nail. The second day of shooting involved constructing my "apartment door" on the street in front of a firehouse in the middle of Hollywood. Neat.
